The Membranes

Since they reformed after being asked by My Bloody Valentine and then Shellac to play ATP festival it’s been a great couple of years for Membranes.

Their critically acclaimed Dark Matter/Dark Energy album is their best selling release - remarkable for band that formed in 1978 with their discordant bass driven post punk becoming highly influential on the eighties noise scene with bands as diverse as Napalm Death, Big Black and My Bloody Valentine and many others quoting them as an influence.

The reformed band have been regulars on 6music and have been big hit at festivals as diverse as Green Man and Glastonbury and their special gigs with their 25 piece hour have been a big success across Europe. The choir weave in traditional fold songs and drone melodies written by the band into the groups songs from the acclaimed Dark Matter/Dark Energy album which has been getting great reviews in the press and lots of radio play on 6music. the band’s first album for 26 years is a double album about death and the universe and has somehow become their best selling album and seen the group tour the world.

The band’s current remix album Inner Space/Outer Space features remixes of  whole of the Dark Matter/Dark Energy album by Killing Joke, Manic Street preachers, Einsturzende Neubauten, Therapy, Cosey Fanni, Keith Levene, Reverend And The Makers, Mark Lanegan (who made the band’s Dark matter/Dark Energy album his album of the year), Clint Mansell, Godflesh and many others…
